Earthquakes,Hurricanes

An earthquake is the result of a sudden release of energy in the crust of the planet Earth, usually due to the collision between tectonic plates, which creates seismic waves. The seismicity or seismic activity of an area refers to the frequency, type and size of earthquakes recorded over a period of time in the region.

In Portugal, the 1755 earthquake  occurred  in November 1755, almost completely destroying the city of Lisbon, especially in the Baixa area, and also affecting much of the Algarve and Setúbal coast. The earthquake was followed by a tidal wave - believed to have reached a height of 20 meters - and multiple fires, having certainly killed more than 10,000 people. It was one of the deadliest earthquakes in history, marking what some historians call the prehistory of Modern Europe. Seismologists estimate that the 1755 earthquake reached magnitudes between 8.7 to 9 on the Richter scale.
